Starlight Youth Orchestra (SYO)
Background
Opportunities to learn and perform orchestral literature are becoming fewer.
Starlight Symphony, a non-profit community organization, wishes to provide
such an opportunity to offset this trend.
Goals of SYO
- To explore orchestral literature, improve as musicians, develop teamwork and leadership, and enjoy making music.
What is unique
- Repertoire includes Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, and Popular
styles.
- Instrumentation: standard orchestral, plus others based on
ability.
- Players can learn to compose and arrange for orchestra and ensembles within.
- Players can learn to conduct.
- Exposure to repertoire is combined with instruction in music theory and
harmony.
- Tuition $95. (Typical youth orchestra tuition is $500.)
Rehearsals
- Rehearsals once a week during the school year, holidays and breaks excluded.
- An optimal day and time will be determined from auditions.
- Rehearsals are primarily at Tualatin Presbyterian Church, 9230 SW Siletz
Drive, Tualatin, OR 97062.
- Rehearsals are open to relatives and friends of players.
Performances
- Three public performances during the year at Tualatin Presbyterian Church.
- One performance integrated with the Starlight Symphony.
